In Literacy we have been learning about writing instructions in particular recipes. We made vegetable soup in class and made notes to be able to write our instructions. We then got to taste it. Some of us though it was delicious and had seconds. As you can see by some of our faces, some of us were not too keen.
We have been thinking about Remembrance Day in Year 5. We made a poppy wreath for when we did our 2 minutes silence. We listened to the Last Post and looked at our wreath whilst participating in our silence. We also made Remembrance acrostic poems.
In science our topic is Get Sorted. We are looking at different materials and their properties. Today we investigated solids. We thought that solids were all rigid and hard. We actually found out through our investigation that there are also a range of soft solids also.
In Topic we have been learning all about the Ancient Greeks. We made a Greek lekanis pot from clay and decorated with Greek inspired patterns. We had to carefully score our pots to attach a base and handles.
In our topic ‘It’s All Greek To Me’ we have been learning about Gods and Goddesses. We painted portraits of Apollo, Zeus, Hades, Aphrodite, Poseidon and Athena. To ensure we got the scale accurate, we used a grid over another picture and then used this to draw and paint our portraits. We needed to colour mix our watercolours to get the correct shade and colour that we wanted.
We investigated the different phases of the moon by sitting in a circle around our moon. One side was black to show the dark side of the moon and the other was white to show the part that was facing the sun. We all drew on our whiteboards what we could see of the moon and then we held them up for everyone to see. This showed us all the phases of a moon’s cycle and we learnt all the names too.
