Welcome to Year 1’s class page. Our class teacher is Mrs O’Malley and our class Teaching Assistant is Mrs Mushtaq.
On our page you’ll be able to find the latest class newsletter, topic homework sheet and spellings just in case any thing has been left in trays and you need another copy! Here you will also be able to see lots of photos of all the fun and interesting activities we take part in. Check back regularly for updates.
Reading books will only be changed on Monday’s and Thursday’s. Please sign your child’s reading record every time they read. If your child gets 3 entries (signatures) a week they will be entered into the school raffle for a chance to win a prize and if they get 5 entries (signatures) a week they will receive a special sticker.
Here are some important dates to help you remember when things should be in school:
MONDAY Literacy homework and spelling will be sent home. Please practise spellings however you want at home ready for their test on Friday. The literacy homework should be returned completed to school on Thursday.
TUESDAY is our PE day and children should arrive at school wearing their PE kit along with their school jumper/cardigan and a pair of trainers. Please choose footwear with velcro wherever possible.
THURSDAY Maths work will be sent home and should be returned completed to school on a Monday.
Water Bottles (Please fill with water only). Your child is welcome to bring a water bottle to school each day to drink in throughout the day. We encourage the children to take them home each evening, rinse them and bring them in full each day.
Please read our Newsletter below to find out what we will be doing this half term.

If you click on the photo button below, it will take you to a parent page that will help with any questions you might have about how we teach phonics. There are some really good videos on there to help with how to sound and how to ‘fred’ talk. If you hover over the video in the top corner it will say there are 18 videos to choose from. Please feel free to watch whichever videos you feel will help.

As part of our R.E. lessons, we are looking at the celebration of harvest. We looked at where some of our food comes from and noticed it comes from all around the world! We enjoyed tasting some fruits such as mango, kiwi, apple, raspberries and pineapple!
We all worked very hard looking at how we can represent numbers to 10 with objects in our classroom. Here are just a few examples of the numbers we represented.
