Year 1
Year 1
Welcome to Year 1’s class page. We hope you had a lovely Christmas break and are ready for Spring term!
On our page you’ll be able to find the latest class newsletter, topic homework sheet and spellings just in case any thing has been left in trays and you need another copy! Here you will also be able to see lots of photos of all the fun and interesting activities we take part in. Check back regularly for updates.
Reading books will only be changed on Monday’s and Thursday’s but please try to encourage your child to read everyday. Please sign and date your child’s reading record every time they read. If your child gets 3 entries (signatures and dates) a week they will be entered into the school raffle for a chance to win a prize!
Here are some important dates to help you remember when things should be in school:
Our P.E. days will be on Monday and Tuesday’s. Children should come dressed in a plain white t-shirt/polo shirt, plain black bottoms, school jumper/cardigan and their school shoes. Children need to bring black pumps in a pump bag to keep at school so they can change their shoes on P.E. days.
MONDAY – PE day. Literacy homework and spellings will be sent home. Please practise spellings however you want at home ready for their test on Friday. The literacy homework should be returned completed to school on Thursday.
TUESDAY – PE day
THURSDAY Maths work will be sent home and should be returned completed to school on a Monday.
Water Bottles (Please fill with water only). Your child is welcome to bring a water bottle to school each day to drink in throughout the day. We encourage the children to take them home each evening, rinse them and bring them in full each day.
Please read our Newsletter below to find out what we will be doing this half term.

If you click on the photo button below, it will take you to a parent page that will help with any questions you might have about how we teach phonics. By the end of Year 1, children should know all set 1, 2 and 3 speed sounds. There are some really good videos on there to help with how to sound and how to ‘fred’ talk. If you hover over the video in the top corner it will say there are 18 videos to choose from. Please feel free to watch whichever videos you feel will help.
