On our trip to Touchstones, a time travelling professor took us back to the Ancient Greek times. We learnt about the city states of Athens, Sparta and Corinth. We enjoyed dressing up in some of the outfits as well and handling the artifacts of the time. We then had to solve the problem of who killed Archimedes? We decided it was a Roman Soldier from the evidence we were presented with. We then also made out own museum artifact labels and made Greek coins from clay.
We made Greek pots from clay. First we had to make the main body of the pot. Then we made a base and handles. We had to make sure we scored efficiently so that they would attach well when we smoothed them with water. After they were dry we painted them with geometric patterns like the Ancient Greeks did.
In topic we have been learning about the Ancient Greeks. We went into the interactive room to take part in an archaeological dig. We had to uncover pieces of pottery and then think about what the images depicted to show us what life was like in Ancient Greek times.
We painted portraits of our favourite Greek Gods and Goddess. We had a picture split into 9 rectangles so we could scale up our picture. We sketched first, then painted in water colour.
