As part of our Easter Celebrations we have been very busy. We completed some crucifixion art whilst learning about the Easter story. We made a silhouette of the 3 crosses and used torn strips of tissue paper to create a sunset background behind them. You can see the completed pieces on our Easter display. We made cards of a chick hatching from it’s egg and discussed how his relates to the Easter story and why this new life is a symbol of Easter. For our Easter service via Teams, we made eggs, with images of important characters and key events from the Easter story, to place on our Easter tree during the service. It was lovely to see all the other classes.
In Topic we have been reading Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. We listened to Tchaikovsky’s classical version and discussed which part of the story it reminded us of. We took advantage of the lovely weather and took our percussion instruments outside to make our own compositions of Romeo’s journey through the forest to Friar Laurence’s. We did this in groups and then played it as one long continuous piece.
For World Book Day. We looked at Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. We made a book door, which we added all the work we had completed. Firstly, we wrote alternative endings to the story as we decided that we didn’t like that Alice found out that she had been dreaming all of her fantastic adventures in Wonderland. We then painted some of the characters from the book such as Alice, The Queen of Hearts, The Cheshire Cat, The March Hare, The Mad Hatter and The White Rabbit. Finally we made some models of the Queen of Hearts family and soldiers using playing cards. We have a really lovely day!
We made a holly and berry design using cross stitch. We found it quite tricky at first. Some of us kept pulling the needle off the thread so they have to be re threaded but we persevered and made some lovely gift cards from them.
